Smithsonian Institution and <strong>Pollinator</strong> <strong>Partnership</strong>Bring International Focus to <strong>Pollinator</strong> PlightP2’s signature collaborative initative, theNorth American <strong>Pollinator</strong> Protection Campaign(NAPPC), brought science, agro-business,government agencies and conservation groupstogether for an intensive strategic two daysummit in Washington DC. From Europe,Mexico, Canada, and the U.S., key stakeholdersset in motion plans to combat pollinatorloss through outreach, science, policy andrestoration action.This 11th Annual International NAPPCConference was held at the nations leadingrepository of America’s scientific treasure, theSmithsonian’s National Museum ofTo watch live recorded streamingvideos of the conference, visithttp://www.mnh.si.edu/nappc2011/Natural History. The NAPPC delegates heardinspiring keynote addresses from the U.S. Fishand Wildlife Agency’s Associate Deputy BryanArroyo, Ed Flanagan of Jasper Wyman andSon, the Rev. Richard Cizick, and GrahamHartwell of BASF in England. All the wayFrance, the filmmaker Mark Daniels showedthe first ever U.S. screening of The MysteriousDisappearance of the Bees.The heart of the summit was a meeting of theminds set in motion by focused Task Forcesaddressing all issues from the importationof bees from other countries to the use ofinternational treaties to support healthypollinator populations and everything inbetween. NAPPC partners, with the support ofP2’s staff, build liaisons to bring the finest mindsand resources to bear on these problems froma united and strategic perspective. FilmmakerMark Daniels, a first time NAPPC participant,commented that “in all my experience, I havenever seen such a variety of perspectivesworking together.
