In addition to the burden <strong>of</strong> studentdebt, they <strong>of</strong>ten face higher individual inflationlevels and are unable to access affordablehousing. These problems must be tackled.Teaching needs to appropriately value youngteachers, with higher starting pay on entry tothe pr<strong>of</strong>ession and faster pay progression inthe early years <strong>of</strong> their careers.<strong>Teachers</strong>’salariesClassroom teachers, i.e. all qualified teachersother than school leadership group teachers,advanced skills teachers or teachers on theExcellent Teacher Scheme, are paid on theMain Pay Scale in their initial years <strong>of</strong> teachingand are then eligible to progress to the UpperPay Scale.
