Pers<strong>on</strong>nelThe sp<strong>on</strong>sor must appoint sufficient faculty and staff with the necessary qualificati<strong>on</strong>s to performthe functi<strong>on</strong>s identified in documented job descripti<strong>on</strong>s and to achieve the program’s stated goalsand outcomes.1. Key Administrative Pers<strong>on</strong>nelThe sp<strong>on</strong>sor must appoint a full-time Program Director, a full-time Director <strong>of</strong> ClinicalEducati<strong>on</strong>, and a Medical Director.Full-time is defined as the usual and customary time commitment required by theinstituti<strong>on</strong> for faculty members or employees in equivalent positi<strong>on</strong>s in other healtheducati<strong>on</strong>al activities. Under this definiti<strong>on</strong>, the Program Director and the Director <strong>of</strong>Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong> should be sufficiently free from service and other n<strong>on</strong>-educati<strong>on</strong>alresp<strong>on</strong>sibilities to fulfill the educati<strong>on</strong>al and administrative resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities <strong>of</strong> therespiratory care program. The Medical Director need not be full-time.a. Program Director(1) Resp<strong>on</strong>sibilitiesThe Program Director must be resp<strong>on</strong>sible for all aspects <strong>of</strong> the program,including the organizati<strong>on</strong>, administrati<strong>on</strong>, c<strong>on</strong>tinuous review, planning,development, and general effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the program.The Program Director should pursue <strong>on</strong>going formal training designed tomaintain and upgrade his/her pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>al, instructi<strong>on</strong>al and administrativecapabilities.(2) Qualificati<strong>on</strong>sThe Program Director must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) andhold such pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>al license or certificate as is required by the state in whichhe or she is employed. The Program Director must possess at least abaccalaureate degree.The Program Director should have a minimum <strong>of</strong> four (4) years experience as aRegistered Respiratory Therapist, <strong>of</strong> which at least two (2) years should havebeen spent in clinical respiratory care and at least two (2) years in a teachingpositi<strong>on</strong> in an accredited respiratory care program. Formal teachertraining/experience is recommended.b. Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong>(1) Resp<strong>on</strong>sibilitiesThe Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong> must be resp<strong>on</strong>sible for organizati<strong>on</strong>,administrati<strong>on</strong>, c<strong>on</strong>tinuous review, planning, development, and generaleffectiveness <strong>of</strong> clinical experiences for students enrolled in the respiratory careprogram.The Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong> should pursue <strong>on</strong>going, formal trainingdesigned to maintain and upgrade his/her pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>al, instructi<strong>on</strong>al andadministrative capabilities.(2) Qualificati<strong>on</strong>sThe Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong> must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist(RRT) and hold such pr<strong>of</strong>essi<strong>on</strong>al license or certificate as is required by the statein which he or she is employed. The Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Educati<strong>on</strong> must possessat least a baccalaureate degree.4 Respiratory Therapist
