IZ MOJE PERSPEKTIVE93FROM MY PERSPECTIVEby ivan ratkovićhave always had the impression thatI Alvaro Siza’s architecture sprangfrom archaeological foundations knownto him alone—signs invisible to anyonewho has not studied the site in detailthrough drawings with steady, focusedconcentration (Vittorio Gregotti).Alvaro Siza Vieira is clearly consideredone of today’s greatest living architects.“Since I was a boy I have made drawings.Drawings, landscapes, portraits and travelsketches, have always kept me busy.I don’t think that it has a direct relationwith architecture but it is a good way todevelop acuity of vision.” Now, with overhalf a century of drawings, Siza’s range ofarchitectural interests remains especiallybroad, from residences to churches,schools, shopping centers, libraries,museums, and occasionally furniture.During the 1980s, Siza expanded hisinternational repertoire when he was invitedto enter several international competitions.He secured first place in the SchlesischesTor, Kreuzberg, Berlin (1980) and againfor the restoration of Campo di Marte,Venice (1985) further first place awardswere gained for the redevelopment of theCasino and Cafe Winkler, Salzburg (1986)and La Defensa Cultural Centre, Madrid(1989). Dok je Siza oduvekbio opčinjen brazilskim modernizmomobojenim hedonizmom.Vredno je pomenuti da je Siza pozvan daprojektuje privremenu zgradu 2005. godineza Serpentine Gallery Pavilion zajedno saportugalskim arhitektom Eduardo Soutode Moura.
