The testprogramme was split into two parts;Track run – A vehicle track cycleof 20,000 km incorporating all thedemands that a real life road oftoday imposes including Belgiumpave/cobbles, larger ‘moon crater’pot holes and repaired asphaltsurfaces.Rolling Road – A rolling roadsimulator aggressively modified tosubject heavy ‘Bump’ loads throughthe chassis and subsequent bodyshell.The intensive test programme,witnessed by vehicle engineeringspecialists at AL-KO, providedconclusive evidence of a very resilientproduct, reinforcing the fact thatour Core ® design has successfullyreduced weight whilst maintainingadvanced strength and durability.Core ® Climate TestIn one of the world’s largest climatechamber test facilities, owned byTruma/Alde, the Core ® body shellendured a sub-zero temperaturetest programme of 100 hours.Conclusions promoted the bodyshell’s superior material propertiesindicating an improved spread ofwarm air, elimination of coldspots/moisture and significantreduction in condensation.The testing then continued back inDerbyshire, UK, where our caravanfelt the temperature extremes ofone of the world’s largest climatechambers run by Truma/Alde.The results from the tests showedthat by using this honeycombthermoplastic material, our Lunarcaravans have a more even spreadof warm air inside and cold spotsminimised. Touring For Over 40 YearsOwners ClubThe Lunar story reflects 44 years of passion and pride for buildingcaravans that are undoubtedly the best in lightweight luxury touring.From humble beginnings,co-founders Brian Talbot and KenWilcock, named their caravanmanufacturing business Lunar,following inspiration from the1969 mission to land on the moon.They knew their caravans wereexceptional but couldn’t haveimagined the size that Lunar hasbecome today. From the flagshipClubman to the legendary littleAriva, through the years the Lunarethos has remained constant: buildlightweight high quality caravanswith luxurious interiors. Protectingour heritage and our future hasalways been paramount.When the company was sold toa European manufacturer in the1990’s it was a milestone whena management buyout, led byChairman and CEO, Brian Mellor,was finalised in 2007.Since the buyout, the innovationapplied to both our caravans andour manufacturing has gone fromstrength to strength. We have madeinvestments in a wide range of newmanufacturing equipment andnew design software technology.These advancements have becomeour trademark, setting our caravancollection apart from our rivals.In March 2011, we were reunited withone of our very first models, a LunarSaturn, that had toured with a familyfrom Lancashire for over 40 years.This compact two berth was one ofthe first models we built. The familytook delight in touring with thiscaravan all over the UK from 1969right through to 2010.Following a difficult decision in 2011 tofinally retire from touring, the familycontacted us to see if we couldprovide a final home for their Saturnwhich had become a real part of thefamily.
