Under the184 program there is a 20-unit restriction guideline on loans and a 10% contingency fee.The tribe was granted a waiver to the 20-unit restriction, and the contingency fee wasreduced from 10% to 5%.“Apache Dawn” also demonstrated that when a tribe is given more control overits own housing program, the tribe can reach a success rate higher than that realized in thelast few decades. The total cost of “Apache Dawn” was $25 million.Although the White Mountain Apache Tribe was successful in the development of250 homes, they are still faced with an unmet need. Lack of funding is the biggestchallenge facing the housing authority. Identifying more resources to addressinfrastructure and the critical housing shortage remains a top priority for the WhiteMountain Apache Tribe. Many families are still without homes; construction of 250homes will only address 16% of the need on their waiting list.Contact Information:Executive DirectorWhite Mountain Apache Housing AuthorityP.O.
