S. Perrott Curriculum Vitae 42007 External Examiner, Acadia University, Wolfville, N.S.Mark Smith- Personality, Affect, and Risky Sexual Behaviour1996 External examiner, Memorial University, Newfoundland1993 External committee member, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, N.S.Dan Zhang- The impact of stressful events and critical incidents on lawenforcement personnelScholarly and Professional ActivityMy primary research area is the psychology of policing and can be more broadly conceptualized asapplied social research that often sits at the interface of social and clinical psychology. My policeresearch has focused on police culture, police-community (especially race) relations, and workplaceviolence and stress. Others areas of interest include intergroup relations, prejudice, discrimination, and coping with chronic disease. I am currently conducting research investigating the motivationalbases that drive volunteer firefighters.Since 1998 my efforts have increasingly swung towards international development work. I worked asa consultant to the Philippine National Police on a five year CIDA-funded project designed toameliorate the abuses suffered by sex-trade workers in that country. I taught the first psychologycourse ever offered in The Gambia in a university extension program there and was the CIDAevaluator for a peer health education project in same country. In 2010 I completed a six-year term asthe project director of the $1,000,000 CIDA funded and AUCC managed, Community-BasedPolicing in The Gambia project; the experiences drawn from this venture form the basis of a book Iam currently writing.I also have spent considerable time consulting to the Halifax Regional Police Force, the RoyalCanadian Mounted Police, and the Department of Community Services, Province of Nova Scotia aswell as serving as a lecturer for the Canadian Police College’s Advanced Leadership course.Scholarly and/or Professional Publications - RefereedChapters in Edited BooksPerrott, S.B.
