CHEN PING

CHEN PINGwas born in Shantou, China in 1962 and nowworks in China and Australia. Ping has heldsolo exhibitions in New York, Los Angelesand with Pearl Lam Fine Art in Shanghai,Gaffer in Hong Kong and other galleries inSydney, Melbourne and Hobart. His work hasbeen shown at some international museumsand art fairs including Scope NY & Basel,Art Chicago, and also has been collectedby Guangzhou Museum of Art in Chinaand White Rabbit Collection in Australia.His work is a complex and inclusive artlanguage. It is neither purely abstractnor purely expressive whilst being bothconceptual and realistic. Currently, he ismixing Western figurative and pictorialstructures with the spirit of Eastern spaceand mark making. The subjects are derivedfrom Chinese ancient philosophy andmythology; they are also inspired by thebeautiful landscape in Tasmania where theartist lives. Through the depiction of humanstructures integrating into vast landscape(and sometimes animals), He tries to visualisethe modern tension between mankind andhis environment and to explore the ancientChinese philosophic concept – “Man anduniverse are one”.
