<strong>University</strong> Financial Assistance ProgrammeSince admission at AKU is needs blind, the <strong>University</strong> operates a Financial AssistanceProgramme which ensures that no Pakistani student, resident in Pakistan, whoqualifies for admission to the full time academic programmes at AKU are excludedbecause of inability to pay tuition and fees.Through the <strong>University</strong>'s financial assistance programme, students are awarded softloans and grants-in-aid in some instances. The loan is payable in easy instalmentsafter graduation from the programme. Details should be obtained from the StudentFinancial Assistance and Counselling Office.For the 2009-2010 academic year, about one-half of the students enrolled wereawarded financial assistance by the <strong>University</strong>.Assistance is offered on the basis of demonstrated need as evaluated by the <strong>University</strong>from data provided by students and their families and other avenues that the<strong>University</strong> may deem appropriate. Every student applying for financial assistancemust also demonstrate that he or she has thoroughly explored all other possible sourcesof assistance. However, every student is required to make some contribution towardsfees, living expenses and other costs, so as to not totally depend on the <strong>University</strong> forAssistance. Continuation of financial assistance is conditional upon yearly assessmentof financial needs.Financial assistance arranged by the <strong>University</strong> is intended to favour and encouragequalified students from families with low income, as well as those from rural andunderdeveloped areas of the country who have no means to pay for their education atAKU.Applications for financial assistance for students joining in October 2010 will beacceptable within seven working days after receipt of the admission letter. Applicationforms are available online. These are also available from the Student FinancialAssistance and Counselling Office.Mode of PaymentApplication feeApplicants may pay their application fee through the following modes of payment:For candidates in Pakistan: The payment can be made by a demand draft in favourof “The <strong>Aga</strong> <strong>Khan</strong> <strong>University</strong>” or by online deposit to any branch of Soneri BankLimited.2
