If you recognize the mug to the left, chances are you’ve already seen or even read A.D.:New Orleans After the Deluge, the graphic novel released back on August 18th. Yours truly is one of the“characters” whose Katrina story is told through the book, and we held several signings and a party between the21st and 23rd. The response to the book has been phenomenally positive and all the events were well-attended andspecial in their own rights. Special thanks go to Republic for hosting us after a last-minute venue change, NOLABrewing for donating beer for the party, Maple St. Books and Beth’s Books for having artist Josh Neufeld and meas guests, and Octavia Books for having a great signing with Josh. While I’m thanking people, I’d like to mentionthat I wasn’t at the Octavia signing because I was part of the awesome sports panel over at Rising Tide IV, butmore on that over in Homefield Advantage. Finally, we’re in September—it seems like the beginnings of summer have lasted years instead of a few months. We have a great issue for you to check out, from the original cover by Skyler Fein (isn’t it great?) to Dan Fox’sinterview with the artist, to Michael Patrick Welch’s chat with Rik Slave, to our feature on Phoenix, many news pieces (including us catching up onthe Gray Ghost situation), new comics, tons of reviews… If you go to all the events we cover in this issue, you’ll be busier than I was last month! Ofcourse, the latter part of the year doesn’t get any slower, as October brings Voodoo! Until then… —Leo McGovern4_antigravity: your new orleans music and culture alternative
