The Center focuses on bio-energydevelopment and advanced alternative energy related manufacturing.The Energy Commercialization Institute(ECI) awarded $760K for company technologycommercialization and translational research witharea universities. In 2009, Drexel University,<strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania, Penn StateUniversity and <strong>Ben</strong> <strong>Franklin</strong> established <strong>the</strong>ECI with funding from Pennsylvania’s <strong>Ben</strong> <strong>Franklin</strong> <strong>Technology</strong> Development Authority. The ECI partnered withPhiladelphia University, Temple University, Villanova University, and Widener University <strong>to</strong> become <strong>the</strong> region’sfi rst university-based energy commercialization partnership. ECI was re-funded with $1M from <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth<strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania in early 2011.The Greenworks Pilot Energy <strong>Technology</strong>Program (G-PET) funded three companies <strong>to</strong>conduct real-world pilots <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir products.
