This causes thecollar to be in an incorrect position. The lowerdie (usually the reverse die) is recessed in thecollar. This allows the coin which is going tobe struck to have a formed rim. After a coin isstruck the lower die raises upwards, pushing thestruck coin out of the collar and ejecting it. If ablank entering the collar is not properly seated, itwill only have partial reeding as it is struck. Theedge of this coin will have a partial reeding and apartial blank surface area.
