How to PrepareWorkshop participants can do a number of things to prepare for the workshop. Here are somesuggestions:• Download and install a free demo of the GAMS system software. The GAMS User'sGuide is available on the web and provides a documentation of GAMS notation andsyntax.• Look at background material provided over the web, either on the GAMS home page,the MPS/GE home page at GAMS, or Thomas Rutherford's web page.• Read Jim Markusen's tutorial chapters and look at the corresponding model examples.• For students interested in the use of GAMS/MPSGE for doing economic theory, seeJames Markusen, Multinational Firms and the Theory of International Trade, MITUniversity Press, 2002.The InstructorsJames R. Markusen is Professor of Economics, University of Colorado at Boulder andAssociate Editor of the Journal of International Economics. He is a specialist in the theory ofinternational trade and direct foreign investment and is widely published in the top economicjournals.Jesper Jensen is Partner of Copenhagen Economics, a private consulting company establishedin 2000. He is a former employee at the Danish Ministry of Economics and Business Affairs(MobiDK Project) and is currently directing several CGE modeling projects for the WorldBank, the European Commission and several European Governments.Volker Clausen is Professor of Economics, University of Duisburg-Essen, Campus Essen. Hiscurrent research interests include general equilibrum modeling with a focus on ageing in openeconomies. His publications have a focus on international topics and appeared in, amongothers, the Journal of International Money and Finance, the Journal of Economic Integrationand the Review of World Economics.
