RAAF ENSIGN LAID UP IN WACOL CHAPEL<br />
The RAAF Ensign was marched in and laid up in a solemn cer emony at the <strong>National</strong> Service Heritage Chapel to<br />
mark <strong>National</strong> Service Day.<br />
The hand-made silk flag, with gold<br />
fringes, is the gift <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong><br />
Servicemen’s Branch <strong>of</strong> the Royal<br />
<strong>Australia</strong> Air Force <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
Base attended the service. The Amberley Brass Band provided the<br />
music and the No2 Wing Precision Drill Team <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Australia</strong> Air<br />
Force Cadets formed the Guard <strong>of</strong> Honour.<br />
Air Marshal Shepherd later opened the Air Force Display in the<br />
Everyman’s Hut, which will form the first stage <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong><br />
Service Museum.<br />

It honours the 23,500 young men<br />
called up for service in the RAAF<br />
between 1951 and 1957. Of them,<br />
4,000 were Queenslanders.<br />

The President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> Servicemen’ s Branch<br />
<strong>of</strong> the RAAF <strong>Association</strong>, Bob Cotter, who also is<br />
Brisbane South Branch President <strong>of</strong> the NSAA,<br />
carried the Ensign in. He was escorted by four<br />
Cadets.<br />
After kneeling at the altar , Mr.Cotter presented<br />
the Ensign to the <strong>Association</strong>’s State Padr e,<br />
Dr.Noel Wallis, who draped it on the new altar<br />
table, blessed just befor e the Service. The RAAF<br />
<strong>Association</strong>’s Chaplain, Father Paul Goodland, then<br />
blessed the Ensign.
