Etherlogic AdvantaMillivolt ModeThe Advanta controller can accurately measurevery small signal levels like those from “bridge”type pressure transducers and low power devicessuch a solar radiation sensors. These low-levelsensors are connected between the V/I and Cterminals of a Universal Input channel. In the millivolt mode, the controller has a fullscale measurement range of +/-300mV. The I/Oprocessor scales and performs calibrationcorrection on the low-level readings, so that afull-scale reading of +/- 300mV is presented tothe main CPU as a value of +/-30,000 (10,000counts per 100mV).Besides reading the output of low-level sensors, this mode is useful for creating custom inputvoltage ranges using an external resistor voltagedivider. Typical custom ranges and theircorresponding divider values are listed below(these allow for 150% over-range capacity and>10K ohm load). From Analog Sensor"Upper"Resistor"Lower"ResistorTo Analog InputRange “Upper” resistor “Lower” resistor+/-1Vdc 8.06K ohm 1% 2.0K ohm 1%+/-5Vdc 12.1K ohm 1% 499 ohm 1%+/-10Vdc 24.3K ohm 1% 499 ohm 1%Using the Scaling section of ScadaBuilder, the +/- 20000 (+/-200.00mV) readingsfrom the I/O processor can be easily converted to scaled values and/ or engineeringunits. In this example, the readings are converted to +/-10.000 which would beappropriate for a 10V divider. Note that if the input level exceeds 200mV, the scaledreadings will exceed 10.000V unless clamping values are entered.Changing the “Engineering Units” will cause the sensor readings to be convertedlinearly to any desired range of integeror real (floating point) values.Thermocouple ModesThe Advanta controller directlysupports thermocouple temperaturesensors. These sensors are connectedbetween the V/I and C terminals of aUniversal Input channel. No external signal conditioners are needed for any combinationof type J, K , T , E, R, S and B thermocouples.Thermocouple30Copyright © 2007 Industrial Control Links, Inc.
