7FUNDS AWARDED 2004–2010 BY BROAD CATEGORYOF THE COMMON SCIENTIFIC OUTLINECelebrating outstanding contributions tocancer research in <strong>NSW</strong>The <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>NSW</strong> Premier’s Awards for Outstanding<strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Research</strong> were established in 2006 to acknowledge theachievements and commitment of <strong>NSW</strong> cancer researchers at alllevels. There are four categories 35 awarded each year:1. Outstanding <strong>Cancer</strong>30<strong>Research</strong>er.2. Outstanding <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Fellow.253. Outstanding <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Scholar.204. Innovation in <strong>Cancer</strong> Clinical Trials.15The award for Outstanding <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Research</strong>er honours anindividual who has made significant and fundamental contributions10to any field of cancer research in <strong>NSW</strong>. These contributions musthave had a lasting impact on the cancer field and must have5demonstrated sustained progress against cancer.The Fellow and Scholar 0 honours are awarded to a <strong>Cancer</strong><strong>Institute</strong> <strong>NSW</strong>-supported Fellow and Scholar who havedemonstrated significant achievements and progress in theirresearch over the previous year.The Premier’s Award for Innovation in <strong>Cancer</strong> Clinical Trialsrecognises the achievements or activities undertaken by staffwithin a clinical trial unit under the umbrella of the <strong>NSW</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong>Clinical Trials Network, which demonstrates innovation in relationto the conduct of clinical trials.Areas of innovation may include: increasing access to clinical trials,strategies to address underrepresented groups (tumour groups,populations), promoting a research culture, collaboration,developing training opportunities and community involvement.
