6|The Conference onAffordable QualityHousing (CAQH2013)MySET NEWSLETTER | 17th ISSUE | MAR - APR 2013PUTRAJAYA, MAR 11, 2013: Conference on Affordable QualityHousing (CAQH2013) was successfully held at Marriott Hotel,Putrajaya, Malaysia. It has been organised by the HousingResearch Centre (HRC) of Universiti Putra Malaysia withthe collaboration of The Malaysian Society for Engineering &Technology (MySET) and Federation of Engineering Institutionsof Islamic Countries (FEIIC). The conference has gatheredparticipants from Malaysia as well as International.Early in the morning, participants have come to register forthe Convention and more than 60 people have gathered to fillthe ballroom. The Head of HRC, Prof. Dato’ Abang AbdullahAbang Ali was invited to the stage to address the crowd andlater, officiate the Conference. He said that the CAQH 2013 isan important event for the nation which highlighted the issueson affordable quality housing and key policy areas that affectmost housing issues in Malaysia. This three-day Conferencegathered experts in the housing field, including those involvedin developing policy and legislation, planning and developmentfor researchers, architects and planners, housing authorities,industrial participants, business suppliers, technologists, scientists,engineers, graduate students and beyond. The Conferencebrought together a diverse pool of participants. It was an excellentopportunity for the exchange of ideas, research innovations andupdates for our understanding on the latest national developmentfor identification of further programmes for contributing to the
|7economic and social development of quality housing industryin Malaysia.The first session of Keynotes was chaired by Prof. Dr. ThamerAhmed Mohamed and the Keynote speakers were Datuk AbdulMutalib Alias from 1Malaysia People Housing Programme(PR1MA) and Ar. Chan Seong Aun from Pertubuhan AkitekMalaysia (PAM). The technical session was divided in twosessions. The first technical session was chaired by Assoc.Prof. Ar. Dr. Azizah Salim (Policy & Finance) and the secondtechnical session was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Fakri ZakyJa’afar (Construction & Technology).On the second day of the Conference, the first session ofKeynotes was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Mariah Adamand the Invited speakers were YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Sr. KamarulRashdan Hj. Salleh from Syarikat Perumahan NasionalBerhad (SPNB) and Mr. Lee Seng Fong from Master BuildersAssociation Malaysia (MBAM). The first technical session waschaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamariah Dola (Planning & SocialDevelopment) and the second technical session was chaired byAssoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Demirboga (Sustainable Planning& Development). It continued with the Panel Discussion:Affordable Quality Housing – Way Forward moderate byAssoc. Prof. Ar. Meor Mohammad Fared Meor Razali andthe panel list were Dato’ Dr. Mohd Padzil bin Hashim fromNational Housing Department, Ministry of Housing of Localand Government, Dato’ Hj. Omar Osman from CUEPACS, Ir.Zulkifli Ahmad from Malaysia Affordable Housing InterestGroup (MyAHIG), MySET and Mr. Ahmad Jefri Clyde fromGaris Architects Sdn Bhd, AJC Planning Consultants SdnBhd.
