Part III:Programs and ResourcesWisconsin Induction Model: Promising School District ProgramsEach school district in the state is required by PI 34 to provide a support system forinitial educators. The most critical components of the district induction supportsystem include ongoing orientation, support seminars, and a qualified mentor foreach initial educator.The Department of Public Instruction developed the Wisconsin Induction Model soschool districts throughout the state could learn about the specific components of acomprehensive induction program. In addition, the department identified a numberof school districts that had developed programs that could be defined as “promisingprograms.” These districts represent small, medium, and large student enrollmentdistricts, with geographical distribution across all CESAs and will provide informationto those interested regarding their induction programs. The program is intended to create a comprehensivesystem to recruit, develop, and support a pool of diverse educators, with the focuson potential educators currently attending high need schools. Over 2,000 studentshave participated in the program since its inception in 1996. The program offerstudents opportunities to understand the preparation needed to become a teacher,exposing them to campus life and connecting them to pre-professional pathways intoprofessional careers.Future EducatorsFuture Educators Association (FEA) is a national program for middle and high schoolstudents interested in exploring careers in education by providing them with arealistic understanding of the nature of education and the role of the teacher. Thedepartment is working to increase the number of FEA charter chapters.
