Dear <strong>Salamanca</strong> Community,Superintendent’s Message:First and foremost, I wish to offer my since<strong>res</strong>t congratulations to all of our<strong>2013</strong> graduates and welcome our newest <strong>Salamanca</strong> Alumni. You have survived andpersevered through some of the most challenging, rigorous and demanding times andI am pleased to convey upon you your High <strong>School</strong> diploma. This is not the end buta new beginning to a journey that awaits you in adulthood.Whether it be college, employment, armed service or another pathway, as graduatesthe world will look at you differently now. You are no longer viewed as a child butyou are now a full-fledged adult, capable of making decisions that will impact yourlife, your income, your future and your direction. This is an awesome <strong>res</strong>ponsibilityin which I sincerely hope you will all take with tremendous seriousness. When yourpath is obscured with obstacles that come along every so often as adults, push on andpersevere. If you are unhappy with where you path has taken you, move judiciouslyto another location. If others conspire to block your path, think of an alternate route.Finally, there is only one person now who has <strong>res</strong>ponsibility for you and it isthe person staring back at you in the mirror. Choose wisely, choose thoughtfully andchoose, most importantly, that which fills you with happiness, joy and satisfaction.Congratulations to all our graduates and best wishes,Robert. J. Smith has been with the districtfor 22 years and ended her career with SCCSD as a 6thgrade teacher at Seneca Elementary <strong>School</strong>. We wish herwell in retirement.Check out our farewell photos on page 11!GoodbyeSeneca<strong>School</strong>!“Necessary” Winsthe Bee!Prospect Elementary held their 6thannual 2nd Grade “Brave as a MountainLion” Spelling Bee the morning of June12. A boy and a girl from each of the 5second grade classrooms were selectedby their teachers to compete in the spellingbee.Before the contest began, five readers- Hyacinth Hubbell, Aubrey Hogan, PiperDineen, Alyssa Perkins and Harley Brown– read a synopsis of the book, “Brave asa Mountain Lion.”The super spellers from Mrs. Quigley’sroom were Adam Blakesslee andMariah Downey; from Mrs. DePew’sroom were Zaron Tucker and Grace Hodara;from Mrs. Mohr’s room were SierraHaynoski and Elias Printup; from Mrs.Ross’ room were Madison Brown andBenjamin Gray; from Mrs. Herrick’s roomwere Bobbi Kirkwood and Jordyn Stoltz.The spellers went through 4 levelsof difficulty. As each higher level of difficultywas announced by Mrs. Mohr, thesecond grade students in the audiencewould murmur “oooh” and “aaah” inawe of their classmates. The words “genius,”“license,” “receive,” “interrupt,”and “millionaire” were part of the higherlevels. In the end, Jordyn Stoltz was thethird finalist, Elias Printup was second,and Adam Blakesslee came in first.
