"Creating community for over 50 years by developingand sustaining quality housing that is safe, secure, and affordable."New Chelsea is a registered charity and non‐profit housing Society that provides over 1,000 safe, affordablehousing units for seniors, families and persons with disabilities. The existence of the Society is based whollyon the provision of safe, secure, affordable housing in a close‐knit community atmosphere of sharing andcaring for one another.In the early 1950’s, recognising the need for affordable housing for WWII Veterans and their spouses andwidows, five Branches of the Royal Canadian Legion founded the Society and contributed money that wasmatched by the government. A plot of land was purchased on East 52nd Avenue in Vancouver, and theSociety’s first housing project opened it’s doors in 1955.Today New Chelsea Society has 19 properties located in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, PortCoquitlam, and Surrey. Our goal is to enhance and promote individual well‐being through programdevelopments, team work, and community involvement.

SPECIALIZED HOUSINGWinch House is a furnished 4‐bedroom, 3 bathroomdisabled‐accessible townhouse in a quiet family housingcomplex that offers free temporary accommodation forCanadian Forces members, Veterans and First Respondersincluding fire, ambulance and law‐enforcement memberswho are receiving care in the Metro Vancouver area. In thisunique facility, these brave men and women can stay withtheir family to recover without the added cost and stress ofexpensive accommodation in Vancouver.Winch House bedroomThe Kidney Suites is a joint program between New ChelseaSociety and the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch thatwas started in 2000. Four furnished suites, located at ChelseaTower close to downtown, offer accommodation to peoplewho must come to Vancouver for a kidney transplant ortreatment and need an inexpensive place to stay where theycan recuperate in comfort. Since the program was initiated,over 200 kidney patients from all over the provincehave stayed in the suites, some for up to 60 nights.Kidney Suite living roomMORE THAN A LANDLORDNew Chelsea Society offers its residents living communities that arerich with opportunities to get involved. For example, in our seniors’buildings, residents can participate in games nights, discussion groups,summer barbecues, social evenings, sing‐alongs, bus trips, and artsand crafts activities. In some buildings residents can join a localtenants’ social committee to organize activities. In other communities,there are opportunities for residents to participate in gardening clubsand even have their own garden plot in which to grow herbs andvegetables.The Society also sponsors educational and health‐related programs insome of its buildings including bringing in a podiatrist, a fallsprevention specialist, safety advocates, nutrition speakers, and otherhealth professionals.Thanks to the dedication and commitment of its staff and directors,New Chelsea Society enjoys and maintains an enviable reputation inthe lower mainland of British Columbia as a sound non‐profit housingsociety that provides safe affordable housing with a genuine concernfor the care and well‐being of its residents.Many of our seniors enjoy a widevariety of fun social activities and themeevents all through the year.
