Girvan Primary who won with their model of Stumpy Towerwere visited by the <strong>WWF</strong> panda and featured in the local press.West DunbartonshireOne of West Dunbartonshire Council’s many <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> activities wasto link <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> to their ‘Cutting Carbon’ campaign. The campaignprovides staff with information on ways to reduce their energy, transportand waste emissions. As part of the campaign they held events providingthis information and encouraging staff to participate in <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> aswell as promoting both online.EdinburghThe City of Edinburgh Council ran a photo competition as part of their<strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> 2012 work. Open to both members of the public and staff,they encouraged people to send in their photos of ‘What we’re doingabout climate change’. They used the competition as a means of engagingmembers of the public, businesses and organisations with <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> andof raising awareness of climate changeSouth LanarkshireAs well as turning off the lights on many of the areas key landmarks,South Lanarkshire Council put a major effort into promoting <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong>through all means available to them. This included articles online and innewsletters, press releases, engagement with community planningpartners and local businesses and also twitter as the event got closer.Their PR department even wrote an <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Hour</strong> story for local nurseries7
