A Treasurer's Report showed $468.96 on hand as ofMarch 27, 1979. Projected expenses (principally for printing and postage) indicatethat our treasury will be emptied by the early 4th Quarter 1979,A discussion of a dues increase was held with the decision to defer any finalaction to the Fall Meeting at NOJEX. As of the Spring Meeting, twelve membershad not renewed.The transfer of our Secretary-Treasurer by his firm to the UK was recognized.A new member, Joyce Groot, volunteered to serve in that capacity until NOJEX.President Engel asked Gene Fricks to act as a nominating committee to presenta slate of potential officers at the Fall Meeting. Anyone interested in servingin any office was urged to contact him.The Society determined to hold a mail auction during the Summer, with the auctionlist to be published in the Summer issue of NJPH.Gerry Neufeld reported that all publicity releases had been printed in thephilatelic press. Brad Arch pointed out that Gerry's efforts had resulted ina $100, donation to the Society.A discussion was held regarding a change in meeting day for our meetings. Ratherthan Sunday afternoon, Saturday afternoon might draw more of ourrembers to attendand participate. This letter was originally mailed at Rahway, NJ to Montgomery, AL. At first, ared '5' was placed on the cover as the rate, but since it was over 500 miles, itwas changed to '10' under the regulation effective July 1, 1845. Sarah had apparentlymoved to St. Augustine, FL and so the letter was readdressed, '10' addeddue to the forwarding, and the letter sent on collect '20'.1;7,Ir,\This letter originated in New Brunswick, NJ on Nov. 10, 1848. Addressed toGeorge Sykes, Burlington County, Wrightstwon, NJ, it was sent by the mail clerkto Burlington where it arrived Nov. 11th (the month is inverted). The mail clerkapparently did not notice that the address was Burlington County, not Burlington(city).
