14. INCENTIVE FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION UNDER SEMICONDUCTOR POLICY2010:Energy is an essential input for Industrial development. As the recourse for production <strong>of</strong>energy is limited conservation <strong>of</strong> energy, use <strong>of</strong> non-conventional, new <strong>and</strong> renewablesources <strong>of</strong> energy such as solar, wind <strong>and</strong> bio-energy, etc., are getting sustained attention.The non-conventional energy sources cover the entire gamut <strong>of</strong> technologies, includingbiogas plants, biomass gasifies, solar thermal <strong>and</strong> solar photovoltaic systems, wind mills, cogeneration,small hydro plants, energy recovery from industrial wastes, geothermal energy,ocean thermal energy, wave energy, tidal energy, hydrogen energy, electric vehicles.The Energy conservation measures include the energy audit, adoption <strong>of</strong> new energysaving equipments, technology, cooling towers etc.Government <strong>of</strong> Karnataka in its Karnataka Semiconductor Policy 2010 has encourage byway <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>incentives</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>concessions</strong> practicing Energy Conservation Methods <strong>and</strong>using non- conventional energy sources.The salient features:1. Incentive <strong>of</strong> 10 per cent <strong>of</strong> the Capital Cost up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> Rs.5.00 lakhs will beprovided for practicing energy conservation measures resulting in reduction <strong>of</strong> energyconsumption <strong>of</strong> at least 10% <strong>of</strong> earlier consumption.2. Incentive <strong>of</strong> 10 per cent <strong>of</strong> the Capital Cost up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> Rs.5.00 lakhs will be providedfor using non-conventional energy sources for its requirements.3. The Incentives is extended to small <strong>and</strong> medium manufacturing enterprises in all theZones.The Eligible New or the existing Micro <strong>and</strong> Small Manufacturing Enterprises which<strong>under</strong>takes Expansion/ Modernisation/ Diversification programme (Both own <strong>and</strong> financedenterprises)shall file the application in the prescribed format along with the documents mentionedin the format to the Director, IT & BT OR KBITS, Bangalore14.1 Role <strong>of</strong> the AMD, KBITS:The AMD, KBITS on receipt <strong>of</strong> the complete application shall inspect <strong>and</strong> verify the workingcondition <strong>of</strong> the enterprise.
