SUPERIOR COURTHow long is my term of service?Minimum is one (1) day or one (1)jury trial.What is the rate of pay?Under state law, jurors selected fortrial receive $12.00/day plusmileage. All others receive onlymileage. Vouchers can only becashed at the <strong>Gila</strong> <strong>County</strong>Treasurer's Office.How will I be notified?Most of the time you will benotified by mail, so you need tocheck your mail daily.Occasionally, you may be notifiedby telephone. It will be yourresponsibility once you are notifiedto call the Courthouse in Globe,(928) 425-3231 or 1-800-293-4452,Extension 8500, to verify your needto attend. You cannot leave amessage on this extension; youmust call extension 8558 to speakto someone.What about my vacation plansand doctor's appointments?You must notify the jurycommissioner'soffice before your scheduled dateof appearance that you wish to beexcused from service.What about my employer?You will be given a work release slip topresent to your employer to show thedates you were present for jury duty.Under Arizona law, an employer cannotdismiss an employee nor refuse to allowan employee to serve, and service shallnot affect vacation rights nor seniority.Does my employer have to pay me whileI serve on jury duty?No, although some employers do paytheir employees.How can I make a decision when Idon't know anything about the law?You are not required to know anythingabout the law. The Judge will instructyou as to the laws that apply in eachparticular case.After my term of service is over, will Ibe called again?It is possible to be called again;however, Arizona law provides that youneed not serve more often than onceevery year.How long do the trials last?90% of the trials last from one to threedays.What if I move or change my telephonenumber?You must keep the jury commissioner'soffice informed of any change of addressor telephone number or anything that willaffect your ability to serve.Can I serve if I have a physical disability?Yes. If you will advise the jurycommissioner's office of your disability,special arrangements can be made toaccommodate most disabilities.ARE WE ALLOWED TO TAKE NOTESDURING THE TRIAL?We will provide you with notebooks andencourage you to take notes as long as youare able to do so without missingtestimony.
