AcknowledgementsThis report is a summary of Rapid Rural Appraisals (RRAs) conducted in 17 districts and Participatory RuralAppraisals (PRAs) conducted in five districts of Nepal. Information was collected during September/ October1999 and April/May 2001 for the RRAs and PRAs, respectively. Altogether there were eight teams that shoulderedthe study in 13 hill districts and five terai districts.We duly acknowledge the painstaking work of the professionals who were involved in the field work and in draftingthe district reports.
