SLPS and VICC computers will considerfor placement only the most recentapplication submitted.WHAT’S NEW FOR 2014–2015Mallinckrodt Academy of Gifted InstructionMallinckrodt is transitioning into a full-time giftedcurriculum school, one grade per year as studentscurrently attending are promoted over time andgraduate out of fifth grade. For the 2014-2015school year, Mallinckrodt will host gifted studentsin the Preschool through fourth grade levels.The curriculum currently in use for grade five willremain in place for 2014-2015. Preschool throughfourth grade applicants must meet eligibilityrequirements for gifted programs to be consideredfor placement.Collegiate School of Medicine andBioscience (Grades 9 and 10 only for 2014-2015)Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience isdesigned for a community of learners that willembrace very high academic standards. In additionto offering advanced curricula, CollegiateSchool of Medicine and Bioscience will create anenvironment where students and staff will worktogether toward a common goal of careers inmedicine and medical research.Placement ProceduresThe District is implementing a new application, placement andnotification timeline for students applying to magnet and choiceschools. The new procedures will allow for quicker notification andinformation to be provided for acceptances as well as availableopenings. (See page 5 for moreinformation.)• All Pool A applicants will beconsidered for placement prior toreviewing Pool B applicants, andall Pool B applicants will be consideredfor placement prior to reviewingPool C applicants.• Applications for non-acceptedstudents must be re-submittedeach year, because unplaced studentapplications do not carry overfrom one year to the next.• Applications received after thePool C deadline will be consideredfor placement in the order they arereceived, after all Pool Applicantsare placed where possible.• Students who do not attendthe magnet or choice school theywere accepted into on the firstday of school will forfeit theirseat.4 2014–2015 St. Louis Magnet Schools
