About usInternational IDEAThe International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) is an intergovernmentalorganization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. Its primary mission is to supportsustainable democratic change by providing comparative knowledge, assisting in democratic reform andinfluencing policies and politics. In particular, this includes convening political dialogue on democraticchange at the request of national actors. The Institute aims to ensure that democratic outcomes areconsistent with full and equal political participation and representation of women and men; are inclusivewith regard to the many expressions of diversity in society; and minimize conflict and consolidate peaceand security. The Institute’s work on political parties takes place under the framework of an institution-wideprogramme on Political Parties, Participation and Representation and focuses on improving the credibility,effectiveness and delivery capacity of political parties. More information can be found on its website:http://www.idea.int.Netherlands Institute for Multiparty DemocracyThe Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) is a democracy assistance organizationestablished by political parties in the Netherlands to support political parties in young democracies.NIMD specifically provides assistance to processes of dialogue between political parties in programmecountries, the institutional development of parliamentary parties and networks of cooperation betweenpolitical and civil society. It adheres to strict principles of ownership, neutrality and transparency andacknowledges that democracies are home grown. NIMD has provided support in context-specific waysand on the request of its partners in constitutional reform processes in countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador,Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. More information can be found on its website:http://www.nimd.org.The Oslo Center for Peace and Human RightsThe Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights was established in 2006 by former Norwegian Prime MinisterKjell Magne Bondevik and Einar Steensnæs, former member of Stortinget (the Norwegian Parliament) andCabinet. Their objective was to create a new platform in Norway for international peace and human rightsefforts, where – together with staff members and partners – they could put to good use their experience andcompetence and the networks they had acquired through many years in domestic and international politics.Since its establishment beginning in 2006, the Oslo Center has developed into an independent,professional and politically relevant democracy assistance centre and a meeting place for experts, changeagents and political actors. The Oslo Center provides comparative knowledge and shared practicalexperiences, and creates meeting places for conflict prevention, dialogue and strengthening of responsibleleadership. The overall mission is to assist fragile states and vulnerable democracies in strengtheningdemocratic political institutions and processes. At present the Oslo Center has nine staff members andextensive cooperation with other organizations and centres of expertise.
