B.1. Knowledge Management Web PortalThe <strong>BGI</strong> scope of work required a knowledge management system to be implemented as toprovide continuous outreach. In Quarter 1, Year 5, knowledge management activities - includingthe knowledge portal, newsletters and briefing seminars - ended or were transferred toUSAID/EGAT.Knowledge managementwas a core function of <strong>BGI</strong>activities. Demand forinformation drove the initialdesign of the <strong>BGI</strong> knowledgeportal, which became asingle site hosting dozens ofpages of information relevantto enterprise developmentand building a communityupon which the exchange ofexperiences and ideas couldfoster improved projectimplementation and impact.<strong>BGI</strong>’s website went live inYear 1. In subsequent years,the website underwentsignificant restructuring tomeet changes in userdemand and bring moreinformation to the community at large.Figure 1: Snapshot of <strong>BGI</strong> landing pageAmong the <strong>BGI</strong> website’s features were lists of USAID enterprise development projects; projectSOWs; and events and training programs related to enterprise development. Featuredpublications by USAID, <strong>BGI</strong> and the development community capturing thought leadership andnew findings were included. The web portal also served Mission support activities throughTeamSite, enabling users to easily access <strong>BGI</strong> resources and communicate easily with otherinterested parties.Other key features and facts of the <strong>BGI</strong> website include:• Average site visits: 1,300 per month• Regular updates of website pages, with new documents being added to Key PracticeArea pages and Studies in Enterprise Development page; additions to the USAIDproject list; new events; and inclusion of new research and events hosted by <strong>BGI</strong>• Changes to the website, e.g., full re-design to ensure uniformity, consistency andease of use; re-writes of page descriptions to clarify page’s purpose and relationshipof content to each area of enterprise development; addition of photos to improvevisual impact; and launching TeamSites for participants of events to find relevantinformation or browse publicationsThe <strong>BGI</strong> site and all public domain information have been officially transferred to USAID and isfound at http://egateg.<strong>usaid</strong>.gov/bgi.10
