Help children begin todevelop awareness and appreciation of family cultural stories and traditions bysinging favorite songs together, creating special customs, and telling stories.Additional Activities and Ohio’s New Learning StandardsEducators: Every Choose to Read Ohio book for children may be used to support Common CoreReading Standards. Share age-appropriate informationaltexts books to expand their knowledge of these living creatures. (Kindergarten).Social Studies• History – Historical Thinking and Skills. Demonstrate to students how time can beshown graphically on calendars and timelines by examining the timeline found atthe end of Acoustic Rooster which chronicles the evolution of jazz music. Havestudents create a timeline of their lives, using pictures, words, maps, and knickknacksto demonstrate change and special events. (Grade 2).Math• Counting and Cardinality – Count to Tell the Number of Objects (K.CC.4). Developstudents’ understanding of the relationship between numbers and quantities bycounting different items on each page of Acoustic Rooster. Practice counting thenumber of animals you see, the number of instruments, etc. Help them understand thatthe last number they count indicates the total number of objects counted and thateach object is paired with one and only one number. (Kindergarten).
