Story and photos by KFOR Chronicle TeamOn 14 September 2009, Multinational Task Force West(MNTF-W) held a Transfer of Authority ceremony inthe Camp Villaggio Italia. Kosovo Force Commander,Lieutenant General Markus Bentler was presiding overthe ceremony. Numerous military and civiliandistinguished guests were present includingAmbassador of Italy to Kosovo, Mr. Michael LouisGiffoni, KFOR Headquarters leading officers, andMultinational Task Force Commanders.The Italian military Bersaglieri band in their traditionaluniform performed on the parade ground where tacticalvehicles were on display. Accompanying by the soundsof marching, TaskForce subunits arrived for formation and positionedthemselves in front of the Italian Flag, which is theleading nation in MNTF-W.The ceremony started at 1100hrs with Kosovo ForceCommander's arrival. Lieutenant General MarkusBentler, followed by outgoing Brigadier GeneralRoberto Perretti and incoming Brigadier GeneralRoberto D'Alessandro Task ForceCommanders, reviewed theMNTF-W troops and joined thedistinguished guests on stage.During his speech, the outgoingMNTF-W Commander,Brigadier General RobertoPerretti thanked the Italian,Slovenian, Hungarian and8KFOR Chronicle, September, 2009
Romanian soldiers within MNTF foraccomplishing their mission with endurance,discipline and professionalism and lastlyexpressed his gratitude to KFOR staff for support.He also underlined friendship and fruitfulcooperation with people of Kosovo.Following the speeches by incomingMNTF-W Commander,Brigadier General RobertoD'Alessandro andKosovo ForceCommander,LieutenantGeneralMarkusBentler,COMKFOR decorated "Aosta" Brigade Commander,Brigadier General Roberto Perretti with Non-Article 5NATO medal for service in Kosovo.The ceremony was followed with the transfer ofMultinational Task Force West flag. "Pinerolo" BrigadeCommander, Brigadier General Roberto D'Alessandroaccepted authority. COMKFOR Lieutenant GeneralMarkus Bentler shook hands both outgoing andincoming MNTF-W Commanders to symbolize thesingle approach and continuity ofleadership.At the end of ceremony, Task Force subunits performeda colorful military parade for KFOR leadership andguests. Headed by flag bearers in the first column, thecolumns of different detachments, including infantry,helicopter pilots, K9 instructors with theirwards marched in front of militaryleadership, soldiers and admiredcivilian spectators.KFOR Chronicle, September, 2009 9
