GENERALINFORMATIONP L E A S E R E G I S T E R E A R L Y !OvervieW: <strong>Miami</strong> Neona<strong>to</strong>logy <strong>2013</strong> strives <strong>to</strong> provide medical professionals with comprehensiveknowledge of <strong>the</strong> leading trends and best practices in neona<strong>to</strong>logy. This course will highlight <strong>the</strong> most currentconcepts in <strong>the</strong> pathogenesis, management and prevention of problems in <strong>the</strong> newborn infant. <strong>Miami</strong> Neona<strong>to</strong>logy<strong>2013</strong> will provide attendees with an extensive educational program featuring new developments in treatingconditions that are causally associated with morbidity and mortality in <strong>the</strong> neonate. Participants will understand<strong>the</strong> importance of <strong>the</strong> preventive approach in minimizing medical complications and optimizing developmentaloutcome. Important <strong>to</strong>pics will include prenatal conditions that may jeopardize <strong>the</strong> fetus, management of acuteneonatal complications, as well as issues relating <strong>to</strong> long term developmental outcome. The goal of this educationalactivity is <strong>to</strong> provide attendees with improved competency, performance and quality of care for newborns.OBJECTIVES:Upon completion of this course, participants will be able <strong>to</strong>:• Examine <strong>the</strong> role of new neurologic interventions in <strong>the</strong> management of asphyxiated infants.• Examine <strong>the</strong> role of new nutritional interventions in <strong>the</strong> management of very low birth weight infants.• Integrate innovative management strategies for invasive and non-invasive neonatal ventilation.• Apply <strong>the</strong> most current concepts regarding <strong>the</strong> care of <strong>the</strong> newborn infant in <strong>the</strong> neonatalintensive care unit when treating conditions associated with extreme prematurity.• Assess <strong>the</strong> role of breast milk in optimizing newborn nutrition.• Assess preventative approaches <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> management of neonatal necrotizing entercolitis.• Assess <strong>the</strong> latest approaches <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> management of <strong>the</strong> patent ductus ateriosus.• Assess <strong>the</strong> potential for <strong>the</strong> use of stem cells in neonatal medicine.• Evaluate ethical approaches <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> care of very low birth weight infants.DATES: Wednesday, November 13th thru Saturday, November 16th, <strong>2013</strong>PLACE: Fontainebleau <strong>Miami</strong> Beach, FloridaACCOMMODATIONS: DELUXE GUEST ROOMSDETAILS OF SYMPOSIUM: Course lectures will be 30 minutes in duration followed by discussionperiods. Workshop lectures will be 30 minutes in duration and will be followed by a discussion session andpractical demonstration.
