Anattempt to overcome weathervaningwith opposite brake can be an invitationfor a prop strike.SUMMARYSome people get claustrophobicin a Cassutt. Others describe itas the most “twitchy” airplane theyever flew. And of course there arethe usual horror stories of difficult,white-knuckled landings that seemto go with small, conventional-gearedhot rods. I find the Cassutt a simple,well-designed aircraft with an establishedtrack record as a Formula Oneracer and a great sport plane. It isa thrill to fly and attracts considerableattention wherever it goes. It is anice flying airplane, very responsive,inexpensive to operate (gets about25-30 miles per gallon), and verystrong. With appropriate experience,a properly configured Cassutt is aninexpensive candidate for Primary/Sportsman level competition.
