His trial lasted eighteen months, at the end of which, he wascondemned to death under the January 14, 1739 Anti-Masonic Bulle of Pope ClementVII. But a more lenient Pope Benoit XIV commuted his sentence to life imprisonment.Cagliostro died a few years later in his jail cell.FIN12
