More Wood, Less Glue! For years, master craftsman, fellow drummer and entrepreneur Ian Witt dreamed of developingthe most dynamic drum possible. In 2003, after a lot of research and design and long nightsin the shop, the first Witt Percussion shell was born and Ian hasn’t slept since! Our goal is to build drums with the most character, tone, resonance & versatility. Witt Drums aregreat everywhere for anything from the subtle sensitivity of jazz to the cut and attack necessaryfor the heavy hitters. Our sound gives you what you are looking for.We have raised the bar in drum making. We challenge anyone to try a Witt Percussion snare!Get Bent! Steam Bent!We find that solid shells manufactured today have a much thicker shell that provides a lot ofattack. While that fulfills the requirements of some players, we feel that a more dynamicrange can be achieved. Our goal is to provide a range from a distinctive attack to afull-bodied resonance. Our drums don’t choke on the high end and they tune low with ease.By reducing the thickness of solid shells by roughly 20% and by hand rounding 45 degree edges,we find we have added not only substantial character to our solid shells, but also provideda balance between body and resonance that surprises even us. Poly-finishes, lacquers andsometimes wraps add excess weight and inhibit wood from breathing and maturing which canlimit the richness of sound a drum will ever produce. In order to protect the integrity of the soundand the natural characteristics of the wood, we have developed a proprietary, hand-applied finishthat enables the drum to achieve its fullest potential while providing the perfect luster .In addition to providing a far superior sounding drum, we also proudly state that we support theuse of locally sustainable wood and supplies. We only use domestically grown, responsiblyharvested or reclaimed hardwoods for our shells. Many exotic woods come from old growthforests located in countries with little or no environmental regulations as to where or how muchwood can be harvested. While we are dedicated to creating shells that are beautiful in bothsound and appearance, we feel we can accomplish this without contributing to the cycle ofirresponsible ecological practices, thus reducing our environmental footprint as much as possible.Sincerely,Witt Percussion2009 Product Offerings9 Standard Snares3 Standard KitsSpecial EditionsCustom Snares and KitsAll of our standard models include:Witt Percussion Handmade Steambent SolidWood Shells w/Reinforcement Rings!Maple - warm, resonant the all around standard for over 50 years!Birch - slightly drier and sharper in tone than maple and more controlled, the choice of many studio musicians.Cherry - warm, wet, round tone excellent for tuning very high and very low.Oak - loud with lots of attack!
