An Islamic revolution:Many Syrians had not experienced following traditional Islam practically prior to the revolution out offear of the regime. Syria was like France in the Middle East, wine and vice was widespread for the elite, while the poor Sunnis' were striving for a living. At the beginning of the revolution, Syrians were simply wanting to remove the regime, they cried to theinternational community for humanitarian support. The plan backfired, and the Syrians got angry, they began to protest: 'We are all Jabhat alNusra.' This increased al Nusra's popularity even more because no-one was helping the Syrians exceptthem.
