Series 4Ambassador Hotel Book 1923-2005Series 4 Ambassador Hotel Book 1923-2005Physical Description: 14 boxesScope and Content NoteBuilding on her career at, and love for, the Ambassador Hotel, Margaret Tante Burk wrote abook entitled Are the Stars Out Tonight? The Story of the Famous Ambassador and CocoanutGrove Hollywood's Hotel. The book was published in 1980 but by 1995 was out of print; in2003 another run of the book was printed. Besides treating the history of the hotel and theCocoanut Grove, the book is well illustrated with invaluable photographs of celebrities andpersonages who lived, dined and danced, and entertained at the Ambassador and theCocoanut Grove. In short it captures the spirit of a bastion of the golden age of Hollywoodfrom the 1920s through the 1950s.This series consists of the subject files that Margaret Tante Burk relied on to write her book.The titles that Margaret Tante Burk assigned to the folders are found in parentheses at thebeginning of the "Contents" field. The original order of the folders was not discernible; thus,the arrangement in the box and folder list does not reflect this. The Ambassador Hotel andthe Cocoanut Grove had no archives, so these are materials that Margaret Tante Burkgathered during the course of her research on the hotel and night club. They consist ofnewspaper clippings; Margaret Tante Burk's personal notes on her research and writing;correspondence; photographs and negatives; hotel and Cocoanut Grove records, such asbookings, press releases, and call sheets for films shot at the hotel; and hotel brochures(often photocopies). Also included are records of the production, sales, and promotion of thebook.
