D., of Airmourit, Clarke county, Alabama.In appearing as the advocate of Female <strong>Medical</strong> Education,we feel conscious that we may subject ourselves to the reproaches<strong>and</strong> animadversions of some worthy members of ourprofession. But believing as we do, that the education offemales in certain branches of Medicine, is one of the greatestwants of our age <strong>and</strong> country ; <strong>and</strong> entertaining the idea alsothat a measure fraught with such important consequences tosociety, has been too little considered or too hastily condemnedby physicians, we are perfectly willing to incur the censures oftheselfish <strong>and</strong> unreflecting, while we are cheered by the hopeof eliciting the attention <strong>and</strong> co-operation of those who considertheir own private interests as secondary to the advancementof the noble science of Medicine, <strong>and</strong> the promotion of the generalgood of mankind. Now, whether we are entitled to thehonor of being considered one of the latter class or not, we cansay in all truth <strong>and</strong> sincerity that we do most ardently desirethe elevation of our profession, <strong>and</strong> the general diffusion of itsbenefits among all classes.
