In the former of these thescheme of rhythm is 5, 5, \\ 4, 4, 4, 4, 3. The theme in A major (theRussian Dance) used by Beethoven for variations, andquoted at length in the second chapter of this book,may be also referred to. Here the scheme runs,5,5, \\4,5.(2+2)The striking features in the Haydn theme are twofold,viz. the rhythm of the phrases and the nine timesrepeated B Bats at the end.(Compare the three B Bats in the Beethoven Prometheustheme.)
