An “Off-Season” Opportunity to Get Involved!Dates: July 8 - August 3, 2013 (4 weeks) with a final performance on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Mertz Theatre.Participants: Students from all over the country and the world come to train for the summer. Their ages rangefrom 9 years old through pre-professionalHow students are placed: Auditions were held February through April in: Chicago (IL), Columbus (OH), Houston(TX), <strong>Sarasota</strong> (FL), Denver (CO), Anchorage (AK) and St. Petersburg (FL).Initially, each student is assessed and placed in the appropriate level based on observed technical ability and physicalstrength.. The curriculum for each level allows for each individual student to continue to grow and increase hisor her abilities and strength. The focus of instruction is always what is most beneficial for the individual student.The emphasis of the program is ballet, with supplementary classes in pointe, variations, modern, jazz and character,as deemed appropriate for the student.Curriculum: <strong>Ballet</strong>, pointe, variations, repertoire, modern, jazz, partnering, character, pilates, yoga, and stretch;mini-workshops will be held on topics such as injury prevention, nutrition and music. Advanced students will beable to participate in Pas de Deux and master classes as well.Faculty: The Faculty includes members of The <strong>Sarasota</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> and The <strong>Sarasota</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> School faculty. Aspart of The <strong>Sarasota</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong>, the School faculty is often supplemented by world-renowned guest artists. Some facultyincludes Isabel Dubrocq, Javier Dubrocq, Sherri Kitchens, Pavel Fomin, Dex Honea, Kate Honea,Lisa Townsend, Wendy Johnson, Sara Sardelli, Pedro Batista, Courtney Smith, and Chaz Glunk.Room and Board: Housing is arranged at the Courtyard & Residence Inn by Marriott, on University Parkway in<strong>Sarasota</strong>. A chaperone will live on-site with the students. Three meals a day are provided, as well as transportationto/from classes.Outside Activities: As the training schedule allows, students will be given the opportunity to enjoy outside activitieslike visits to area beaches and attractions like the Ringling Museum of Art, Selby Gardens, malls, movies andmore. All outside activities are chaperoned.How can the Friends of the <strong>Sarasota</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> help?The Friends can plan on coming to the Friends of the <strong>Sarasota</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> Luncheon being held on July23, 2013 which will feature the summer intensive program. The Friends will be able to watch rehearsals inStudio One and enjoy lunch afterwards up in the Mezzanine The Friends can also bring food, providetickets to events/movies, help with activities, etc., for the students.
