The beauty and tranquillityof the Kenepuru, Pelorus andMahau Sounds are a haven forthose who want to explore untouchedwilderness and get away from it all in an undiscovered paradise.Havelock, known as The Greenshell Mussel Capital of theWorld, at the head of Pelorus Sounds is the ideal starting pointto explore this area by land or water. Adventurers will love thegreat sailing, kayaking, water skiing, swimming, diving, fishingor just lazing on a secluded beach. Some of the outer Soundsis accessible by road, in particular the Kenepuru or French PassRoads. They feature art studios, a contemporary Maori carvinggallery, gardens, walking tracks including the Nydia Track and avariety of accommodation where you’ll discover the warmth andhospitality of the local people. You can also charter a launch andbe rocked to sleep by the gentle lap of the water and savour freshseafood, wild game and homegrown vegetables in one of themany great restaurants and cafés in the area.Discover the untamed nature of D’Urville Island, stoppingat French Pass on the way to watch the white water as itrushes through, circling around a central rock which houses thelighthouse.
