It sold for a figure significantly in excess of$16,000,000, breaking the previous record set by anAntonio Stradivari violin.It is an exceptionally fine example of Guarneri delGesù’s work from 1741; a period which exhibited hismost experimental and glorious work. The violin isknown as the ‘Vieuxtemps Stoutzker’ after renownedviolinist Henri Vieuxtemps and Ian Stoutzker, aprivate owner who previously loaned it to YehudiMenuhin. Ian Stoutzker was also founder of LiveMusic Now. She regularly performsas guest soloist with many of the world’s mostprestigious orchestras, in recital, and on televisionand radio.
