David Griffith.Colonel Cary's sister Mary (1 704-1775). married, about 1720, JosephSelden, <strong>of</strong> Elizabeth City, who died 1727, leaving three sons: 1. ColonelCary Selden, <strong>of</strong> Buckroe, Elizabeth City, born about 1723, <strong>and</strong> marriedElizabeth Jennings, <strong>and</strong> had one surviving son, Dr. Wilson Cary Selden(1761-1835), <strong>of</strong> Loudoun; 2. Colonel Samuel Selden, <strong>of</strong> Selvington,Stafford county, born 1725 ? whose only son, Colonel Cary, died s. p. in1822; 3. Rev. Miles Selden (i726?-i7853 3 r ), married, about 1747, RebeccaCary, sister <strong>of</strong> Judge Richard Cary, one <strong>of</strong> Colonel Cary's executors,<strong>and</strong> left issue, five sons <strong>and</strong> three daughters.Mrs. Anne Whiting, Colonel Cary's second sister, was born about1706, <strong>and</strong> married, about 1724, a Whiting, <strong>of</strong> Gloucester, <strong>and</strong> apparentlydied s. p. <strong>The</strong> name <strong>of</strong> her husb<strong>and</strong> & his relationship to Colonel HenryWhiting, mentioned in the will, have baffled my research. She haddied before the date <strong>of</strong> Colonel John Boiling's will in 1749, which mentionslegacies to his daughters Mary <strong>and</strong> Sarah, "left by their AuntWhiting's will."Colonel Cary names as one <strong>of</strong> his executors "my kinsman, Richard1Cary, <strong>of</strong> Warwick,'afterwards Judge <strong>of</strong> admiralty <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the generalcourt, who was born about 1730 <strong>and</strong> died November 13, 1789, <strong>and</strong> morethan once had represented Warwick in the House <strong>of</strong> Burgesses. Hehad been bred to his pr<strong>of</strong>ession in the school <strong>of</strong> the county clerk's <strong>of</strong>fice,he himself, his father <strong>and</strong> his gr<strong>and</strong>father before him having succeededone another almost as hereditary clerks <strong>of</strong> Warwick ever since the latterend <strong>of</strong> the seventeenth century. He was a cousin <strong>of</strong> the testator, butmany degrees removed, being the second son <strong>of</strong> Major Miles Cary, <strong>of</strong>Peartree Hall, by Hannah Armistead, <strong>and</strong> the gr<strong>and</strong>son <strong>of</strong> "Mr. MilesCary, Junr.," as he is styled in the records, by Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong>Richard Cocke. This latter Miles is mentioned by the Quaker Story whovisited Warwick in 1699 <strong>and</strong> 1706, as "Secretary <strong>of</strong> the County," whowith his brother Thomas, had become converts. <strong>The</strong>y were undoubtedlythe sons <strong>of</strong> Major Thomas Cary (1647-80?), uncle <strong>of</strong> Colonel WilsonCary <strong>of</strong> Ceelys.<strong>The</strong> relationship or connection <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the parties mentioned inColonel Cary's will is set forth in the subjoined table:
