tween each location and for altitudeacclimatization. The teamtraveled by jeep and a truck wasused for all the instruments.Transportation conditions inTibet were tough and at times theroads were broken.Air, water andmeteorologicalmeasurementsThe main research fields studiedwere air and water samples collection, meteorological studies, ozone layer study at Everest BaseCamp, UV-B measurement andon-line measurements of O 3 ,CO, SO 2 , NO x , CO 2 , VOC, andsemi-VOC. Moreover, an atmosphericphotochemistry study anda study of energy exchanges betweensoil and the atmospherewere carried out. CO 2 exchanges,i.e. emission and absorption betweensoil, plants and the atmosphere, were also studied. We used a Vaisala MAWS201Mobile Automatic Weather Stationsuccessfully in the difficultconditions. The complex TibetanPlateau’s atmospheric boundarylayer was again studied duringthis expedition. We measuredwind direction, wind speed, pressure, humidity, temperature (1.50m from the ground), soil temperature, global radiation, and net radiation. In the Everest valley weused three MAWS stations tostudy the stream in this specificarea. One MAWS was set up inour camp at 5000 m and anotherat 3 km upstream in the valley at5050 m. The third MAWS was locatedon the slope above ourcamp at 5250 m. The weather israther quiet in the morning in theEverest valley, but in the afternoonhigh cold winds comingfrom the top of Mt Everest (8848m) are typical.
