Commuter trains began servicing T.F.Green Airport on Dec. 6. The trains, operated by the Massachusetts Bay
the Providence/Stoughton line. The train station, which is attached to the airport via a sky bridge spanning Post
Road, opened in November.
Providence Pedestrian Bridge
In December, the winner of the design competition for the pedestrian bridge proposed to replace the old
Interstate 195 was announced. Inform Studio of Detroit beat out 46 other firms from as far away as China and
Sweden. The bridge is expected to be completed at the same time as the I-way project, in early 2013.
RIPTA Hybrid Bus
bought 63 hybrid buses and 10 hybrid trolleys to replace existing buses in its fleet of about 240 vehicles. Federal
economic stimulus money made it possible to buy hybrid buses. The buses cost $625,000 each and the
trolleys $697,000 each.
