Inter-Club Reports continued Darts Hi Darties. First of all congratulations to Lorraine’s team for winning G.F 6-2 Division 3 Mixed Comp. All players played very well on the night. Glenn you can put away the stress pills now. Well Done Team! Fingal Bay – Guess what folks you are not going to believe this we win the Shield 17-16 it’s been a long time getting the Shield back where it rightfully belongs. Everybody played well. Fingal Bay’s company was great also. We had a good party on Saturday night and I really gave to Gizmo (President F/Bay Darts). But it was all in good fun. Have you ever tried homemade Snapps? Ask Glenn and Lorraine they seemed to enjoy it until the morning!!!! Craig took sick while we were there and he is still there. They transferred him from the Mater at Newcastle to a Private Hospital in the Hunter Valley and from all of us Craig; Get well Soon and hurry up back. Don’t forget Club Championships start 25th August and 1,8,15 September, names in by 1 games commence 1:30 – Ettalong are at our Club o 23 September. Please let Phyllis know. The Jackaroo In Vale - Christine’s Mum (May our Hearts go out to you and may she R.I.P.) 22 | www.smithfieldrsl.com.au Fishing Report The sixth event of the year was the annual inland camping event held at Lake St Clair on the Queens Birthday Long Weekend. This weekend always has a great role up and this year was no exception. With all the recent rain, the dam level was over 100%, so the facility looked a little different this year. Camp was set up by mid-afternoon and after a few refreshments, the evening meal was prepared. A few yarns and a few more refreshments saw most head to bed, keen to get an early start. After a hearty breakfast, and after the fog lifted, crews went far and wide looking for the “best” spot. After visiting the orange tree, Jaime and Selai found numerous bass and catfish whilst bait fishing from the back of the boat. Ellis, Steve and Trish Noack with granddaughters Matize and Kyi-Ella, fishing right next door, found the going tough. They each caught several fish eventually. Moses and Matty McCullock each caught a great bass. The Sunday morning was once again a white out, with the fog having to lift before the boats could launch. Jaime and Selai returned to the orange tree with the Smith family on board, and all caught bass and catfish. Steve Noack caught a ripper bass at 39cm only to be pipped later by a 42cm specimen by Moses McCullock. A special mention must be made to Ellis Noack on his prize eel weighable at 24 points per kilo. Ken Collins almost caught a catfish and once gain his partner Trish out-fished him by catching a bass. Dennis Russell and Jimmy James had a visit by NSW Maritime and passed with flying colours. Well done boys!! A special little mention to Kyi-Ella Noack for persevering so much on the Sunday, and after not catching a fish all day, she fished from the back of Jaime Nelsons boat during the fire wood run, and hooked up to a bass after about 10 seconds. With rain forecast on the Monday and expectations of heavy return traffic, camp was dismantled first thing Monday morning. The winner of the weekend was Selai Nelson with Jaime a close second. The seventh event of the year was held at Greenwell Point on the weekend of 22-24 June 2012. A chilly weekend was expected with the forecast predicting 15-20 knot winds from the southwest for both days. The seas were wild out wide, so all boats fished close to shore. The fishing was tough with all boats recording meagre catches. This was probably due to the cold sea temperature. Jaime caught a beaut morwong at over 2kg and a few flathead, whilst wife Selai caught a solitary small snapper. Ellis caught a small snapper, as well as 6 flathead. Jimmy James O’Sullivan caught a morwong and 6 flatties with Guy Clarke catching a couple of tailor in the river. Dennis Randall trolled up a nice salmon at 1.85kg. Moses McCullock went rock and beach fishing and ended up with a sizable salmon. A special mention must be made to Jeff Rigby for having to make the return trip back to shore, with a boat full of sea water. Heard something about missing bung plugs? On the Sunday, with conditions still freezing to say the least, all boats once again stayed close to shore. Jeff Smith ended up with 14 flatties and a jacket to supplement the previous days catch. He eventually scored enough points to win the weekend. Dennis Russell was runner up with 10 flatties and 2 nice morwong over both days. Just a reminder that we will gladly accept any scrap lead you may wish to dispose of. Seems the leatherjackets are continually biting off rigs including our sinkers. Members of our club can be found at the end bar on Friday afternoons, during the meat raffles. Until next edition, tight-lines. Women’s Auxiliary The year seems to be passing more quickly than ever, or maybe it is just that our lives are so busy. We were represented at our State Congress held this year at Dubbo by our Vice President Mrs. Dulcie Long, who reported back to us all the information regarding changes to rules etc. We would like to thank Dulcie for a job well done. It was a great opportunity, by staying in a country venue, to mingle socially with other Auxiliaries, and I am sure a good time was had by all who attended. Our ladies hosted on 9th July, a meeting of the <strong>RSL</strong> Women’s Auxiliary Far Western Welfare group, and had an enjoyable pleasant night hearing of the wonderful work these ladies do for the patients at the Cumberland Hospital at Parramatta. A big thank you must go to the Sub Branch for the wonderful lunch we enjoyed at the Chinese Restaurant on 11th July, we do appreciate this annual event. We are also grateful for the assistance from the Sub Branch, who are always available to help when needed. At present we are busy planning our 49th Birthday Luncheon to be held on 22nd October, 2012 A special thanks must go to Ms. Jan Kneale who regularly brings us donations from the Euchre Club, which helps a lot with our fund raising efforts. New members are always made very welcome, so if any ladies would like to join us, we meet on the 3rd Monday each month at 1.30pm.
