May Devotionsto the BlessedVirgin MarySunday 8th May at 6pmChoral Evensong, Processionand Te Deumfollowed by cheese and wine!Preacher: Fr. Craig Roters(St. Mary’s, High Crompton, Shaw,Diocese of Manchester)Stephen HargreavesThose in church on Mothering Sunday will have been saddened to learn that on EasterDay, Stephen officially concludes his time with us after 12 years of being AssistantOrganist. We congratulate him on his appointment as Organist of Walton ParishChurch and after Evensong on Easter Day there will be a farewell drink to enable us tosay a proper and formal farewell. During the past 12 years (and many years before hewas officially appointed) Stephen has played a major part in the musical life of theparish. His professionalism and his skilled playing, as soloist and accompanist, havehelped the choir move from strength to strength. During that time there have beenmany memorable performances, too many to list, and we were especially fortunate tohave Stephen to take on the post of Acting Director of Music when Ged left someyears ago.We hope that Stephen will feel able to continue to use the organ to practise on, as he isonly in the next street, and that from time to time we might welcome him back to playfor special services. In the meantime, we thank God for all Stephen has contributed tothe musical life of the parish and all that he has done to enable us to worship God inthe beauty of holiness.13
