SSSRI was founded in 1962 as a unit reporting to the Ministry of Communications and in 2003 it underwent a<br />
restructuring as the Science & Technology Corporation under the State Owned Assets Administration.<br />
The R&D efforts cover the development of new ships, transportation technology, <strong>marine</strong> engine control systems,<br />
navigation safety, telecommunications, environment engineering, port facilities, energy-saving technology etc. In<br />
addition SSSRI carries out certification, development, design, manufacture, new equipment as well as technology<br />
consultation and project contracting and supervision.<br />
The Institute has been awarded Class A certificates on environment impact assessment, environment<br />
engineering, survey design and engineering consultation. Class B certificates have been awarded for architecture<br />
engineering design, construction supervision and facilities installation. In 1997 SSSRI passed ISO9000<br />
certification.<br />
