Classof<strong>2011</strong>Hundreds gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of 28young people who have risen to a challenge greater than most willexperience in a lifetime. <strong>The</strong>se young adults now will have a brightand full future, though it comes only after some very turbulent timesin their young lives.As Tom Roach, chairman of the <strong>Cal</strong> Farley’s Board of Directors,pointed out, “Graduation is a milestone for our graduates. Manyhave overcome difficult circumstances to get to this point and manyof them are far from home. Despite their circumstances, all of themmade the decision to graduate. <strong>The</strong>y chose to do the hard work itwould take to graduate. <strong>The</strong>y all persevered and excelled, and we areso very proud of them.”He continued, “For <strong>Cal</strong> Farley’s, their graduation is bittersweet.It marks success for our mission.” He then addressed the students,“God loves you. He placed you here for a purpose. Boys Ranch hasgiven you many of the important tools that you will need in life, andwe all look forward to hearing about your many successes. <strong>May</strong> Godbless you all,” he concluded.Dan Adams, president and CEO of <strong>Cal</strong> Farley’s, awarded collegescholarships to most of the <strong>2011</strong> graduating class. He made note ofthe fact that in the fiscal year 2009-2010, <strong>Cal</strong> Farley’s supported 115alumni on college scholarships.“We can’t sit back and just expect the youth to do it without somesort of structure and committed adults around them,” he shared withthose in attendance. “It isn’t about the capability or the capacity“This is a small graduating classthis year, but it is one with verydeep roots.” – Mike Wilhelm, senior chaplainof our youth that has been the stumbling block. <strong>The</strong>y simplyhadn’t had the right opportunity or been held to a high enoughstandard.”Kaila Young is the Class of <strong>2011</strong> Valedictorian. During herspeech she encouraged her classmates to embrace the changethey have experienced in their young lives and to use it to shapewhat is to come.“Many of us here come from different places, but we allended up at the same cliff, the same fork in the road, the samedoorway. Today, we each have the option to take the chanceand jump off into the unknown of the adult world. This is thechance to open the door to the rest of our lives.
