5.5 Providers and their school partners ensure that teachers supervising professionalexperience (in particular the supervised teaching practice) are suitably qualified andregistered. They should have expertise and be supported in coaching and mentoring,and in making judgments about whether students have achieved the GraduateTeacher Standards.5.6 Providers require that the supervised teaching practice:• mandates at least a satisfactory formal assessment of the program’s studentsagainst the professional practice elements 22 of the Graduate Teacher Standards asa requirement for graduating from the program• is undertaken mostly in a recognised Australian school setting over a substantialand sustained period that is relevant to an authentic classroom environment, and• includes a designated role for supervising teachers in the assessment of theprogram’s students.5.7 School partnership arrangements provide for the timely identification of programstudents at risk of not satisfactorily completing the formal teaching practice, and ofensuring appropriate support for improvement or program counselling.• Evaluations undertaken to assessstrength and effectiveness of schoolpartnerships• Documentation supplied to supervisingteachers and how they are selectedand supported• How school-based personnel areengaged in designing, implementingand assessing supervised teachingpractice• Feedback from supervisors, mentorsand other relevant staff on the quality ofsupport provided• Professional experience placementrequirements including handbook• Assessment arrangements, includingclarity on the roles of school andprovider staff• How the Graduate Teacher Standardsare used as the basis for assessmentof pre-service teachers in theirsupervised teaching practice• Requirement that pre-service teacherswill not receive the award unless theyhave been assessed as satisfactory inclassroom practice• Documentation supplied to supervisingteachers and how they are selectedand supported• The procedures for identifying andsupporting students at risk of notsatisfactorily completing this componentof the program22 The standards and descriptors within the Professional Practice domain of the National Professional Standards for Teachers.C9
