DAY 14: Urgent Needs: Training of House Church Leaders“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnessesentrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”2 Timothy 2:2Da Jin was getting a little discouraged. He had been in this southernprovince of China working among the Zhuang for several years now. Hehad visited rural villages where the gospel was gladly received. He hadformed churches, but a lack of pastors made things difficult. If these newchurches were to continue to grow, it was he that would have to return toeach village to preach, teach, and train these new family members, buthe could only do so much. Though discipleship training is very important, it was preventing him from doingwhat he felt God had called him to do—spread the gospel to those who have never heard. There werestill so many who had yet to hear about Jesus. Out of the seventeen million Zhuang, only a very smallpercentage had even heard of Jesus, much less received a clear presentation of the gospel. He had prayedfor more workers to come or to be raised up in Guangxi Province. God had answered his prayers, but therewas still so much to do and still too few workers.When he heard about a new method of starting churches, he was very excited, but a little skeptical. Howsimple it was—form churches from the new believers. He was doing this, but how could he train workersin the newly formed churches to lead other believers, and train them to form new churches? Could they inturn train others who would form new churches and train new trainers? How could a new believer be atrainer? It sounded too simple. But then there were the testimonies of those who had tried this new methodand had huge success. It seemed to solve the problem of never having enough leaders.So Da Jin attended one of the church planting movement training sessions. He went as a skeptic, but leftfirmly believing that this simple, yet very effective method of beginning a church planting movement wouldwork among the Zhuang. Now he could train trainers, which would allow him to continue the work ofspreading the gospel, and at the same time provide the new churches with someone to carry on thediscipleship training.Pray:• For a church planting movement to begin among the Zhuang.• For those who are leading the CPM training sessions to be effective in communicating with and followingup with leaders.• For the local evangelists to spread the gospel in the rural areas using the CPM principles.
DAY 15: Urgent Needs: Effective Platforms for Expatriates“I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I mightsave some.”1 Corinthians 9:22bAndrew sat down tired, but satisfied after a full day of teaching English atthe teachers’ college. Ever since he had arrived in China and startedteaching, it had been such a fulfilling experience to help these young,enthusiastic students to learn English. In a way, there were few things hewould rather do.At the same time, though, he realized that improving the English proficiency of his students was not hisultimate goal in coming to China. His deepest desire was for them to meet Jesus, their creator and savior.Andrew had a few opportunities to share his faith with some of the students individually, but he realizedthey weren’t able to communicate at a deeper level about spiritual matters. How he longed to be able tospeak Chinese fluently with them, but there hadn’t been much time for him to study Mandarin, let alone tolearn the Zhuang language, which was the heart language of many of his students. Oh, for more time todo all the things he wanted to do, and have a deeper impact on the lives of these students!Expatriates coming to live in China need a visa in order to stay long-term. The most common avenues areto come as language students or English teachers. There are other platforms as well, such as communityhealth, agricultural development, and other social assistance programs. Others establish businesses, rangingfrom import/export to handicraft marketing to commercial and consulting services.Pray:• For creativity and wisdom in setting up platforms for expatriate workers in China.• For platforms that will provide continued access, especially to the rural Zhuang. Sometimes there is a realstruggle to maintain a healthy balance between the platform requirements and time for ministry.
